So, for the last few years, Ive been making the journey to Baxter to enjoy the wilderness. This is the usually the first cabin you see when you get up the hill to the main parking area for the campground. Three of the cabins you have to walk in a bit. Kidney Pond, in southern Baxter State Park, has several trails spiraling away from it. 12 lean-tos It has the best view of the mountain (Katahdin from the Abol side) and you can have a campfire, get firewood and enjoy the hiss & glow from the propane lantern over the lakeview.

Other parents. The Dwelley Pond Trail and Park Tote Road are two ideal places to ride bikes. One really nice thing about this cabin is, you get your own out house. The park recommends that you store your food & cooler in your car overnight so that large black fur critters dont come knocking. The unmaintained trail to Little Beaver Pond (there were blowdowns when we walked it), is just beyond Celia Pond, and is marked with a park sign.
